I don't have a whole lot of good teaching experiences this week because we had a ton of service. We had service pretty much every day this week. One day we were helping someone rip up their floors and bathroom because they're remodeling, another day we were turning over one of our investigator's flower beds so that she could replant all of her succulents. She was so thankful that she made an arrangement for President Mullen. I also think that succulents might work really well in Oklahoma, because they don't mind the heat and they are really easy to plant and grow, they're nearly impossible to kill she says. Another day we were helping somebody move which is always fun. So while service is great and productive and you get to know the members a lot better, it doesn't exactly lead to a lot of teaching experiences.
We did have one teaching experience, though I'm not sure it really counts. On Thursday we had our monthly zone meeting, and Elder Camper and I had been asked to do a roleplay of inviting someone to be baptized at the end of the first lesson. And for some reason he just went to town, we focused our personal study on it and then practiced at home for like 45 minutes, and in the end it went extremely well. I felt really good about it. It makes me wonder why he won't roleplay teaching during our normal comp studies though. I get the feeling it's just that he has done it so many times in the past he doesn't want to anymore. He also might think it's pointless, I don't know. Elder Camper is sort of set in his ways, especially now that he's 95% of the way through his mission. Anyway, not to say that he hasn't been a good trainer. He taught me a lot of scriptures and doctrine, just not necessarily a lot teaching skills, and we haven't had a whole lot of investigators to practice with either so I feel like I'll be a little rusty if I get to an area with a ton of people to teach. But Elder Camper said it was sort of the same way in his first area so I'm sure I'll turn out alright.
The Open House is this Saturday at 6:30, feel free to drop by if you're in the area. And let's just say that I hope it goes really well. We've put so much time and energy and planning into this, that if it doesn't pan out, we'll kind of be up the river with no paddles. Especially because in the past week, basically all of our promising investigators dropped us, so we kind of have the success of the current transfer riding on this Open House. If nobody comes, it will be a long hard struggle to find investigators by doing a lot of walking and talking, but if the members bring all their friends, our weeks will be really full and we'll have plenty to do. Fingers crossed!
I'll let you know how the Open House goes, it has been 2 months in the making, let's see if it was all worth it!
See you soon,
Elder Cornaby
