So it's transfer time again and here's the scoop. I'm staying in Perris with Elder Haltli and we have a new companion named Elder Goodrich. He's been out about 5 months now and he's from North Dakota. He seems pretty excited about missionary work and I think we'll be able to get a lot done working together. With the other transfers in our Zone we have quite a few new/familiar faces in the Menifee Zone now and that will help give us a fresh perspective on missionary work in the area.
This past week, we had one interesting teaching experience. We finally met our Bishop's neighbor. His name is Mike. Bishop has been working with him recently, ever since he had surgery and was down for a few weeks. So the Bishop's family got to know him and help him out quite a bit. He likes to talk a lot! So our first lesson with him was a lot of him talking, and sometimes even getting lost in his rambling, but by the end of the lesson we realized that he really doesn't care if you interrupt him, so we'll remember that for next time. He started out by telling us he doesn't believe you need to go to church or be 'born again', but over time he kind of softened up, and he said he really doesn't know too much about the Bible but he's willing to read and learn. So hopefully we can make some progress through reading assignments and discussions.
The rest of our week was kind of shot for various reasons. So Tuesday was a normal day, but Tuesday afternoon Elder Spencer had to go to the Urgent Care. He'd been puking up blood and hadn't slept for a couple days and just felt awful. Well 3 hours later they say that he needs to go to the hospital to get checked out, and another 4 or 5 hours after that they determine he has appendicitis and needs to get it removed immediately! So he had surgery. Then on Wednesday we went up to Riverside to pick up Elder Mayo, because he'd spent all night at the hospital, and then at the mission home, with Elder Spencer. Later that day, we had to go back up to Riverside because I dinged the car a little backing up in a parking lot. Luckily no damage to other cars, I just hit a carport support. Then on Thursday Elder Herald got sick, and on Friday or Saturday we had to go pick up Elder Spencer from Riverside because Sister Mullen was ready to release him. But because Elder Herald was sick, we couldn't leave him with the person who had a weakened immune system because he just had surgery. So Elder Mayo and Elder Spencer had to stay in at their apartment, and we had to stay in at our apartment with Elder Herald. Elder Haltli and I were each able to go out separately with Elder Brown and his companion for a little bit on Saturday, but we were mostly working in their area.
Transfer day was equally crazy, since we had someone coming or leaving on the hour every hour pretty much all day. We were lucky that the libraries were closed because I'm not sure when we would have been able to e-mail yesterday if we were supposed to do it then. But now everything is getting settled down, just normal meetings today. But I woke up with a scratchy throat and a little bit of a cough, which is how Elder Herald's sickness started. So I'm hoping I can beat it now rather than get sick for a week like he did. We'll just have to see, hopefully we'll have lots of missionary experiences to tell you about next week instead of just another week of staying in or ferrying people around. I'm looking forward to this transfer. I think Elder Goodrich will be a good motivator and I think we'll be pretty diligent and successful as a team.
