Sorry, we had Crossfit today, among other things so we are running short on time. I'll try to give you as good an e-mail as possible. Please apologize to any family I don't get to respond to because of the short time.
To answer your questions, no, not everyone gets the opportunity to train, especially language missionaries. Even English missionaries don't always get the chance to train for whatever reason. A lot of it has to do with the logistics, for example if you hit your 7 or 8 month mark during the slow season for incomings, usually the winter, you aren't likely to train before you get leadership. And then if you're a really good missionary, you might be a ZL when busy season for training starts so you can't have a greenie companion. A majority of missionaries do get to train though at some point in their mission. Ready for my transfer to Moreno Valley. This is everything I own. Last Zone Conference in Corona - February 2016
I'm adjusting to Moreno Valley better and I think I'm starting to take a little bit more of a senior companion role. I really love the scenery here. It's not Utah mountains, but it's enough to make you forget you're in California sometimes. Elder Truman has served in Moreno Valley since he arrived in the mission field. He lived with Ken for his first two transfers, but then for the next two he was in an apartment and now he is back at Ken's. Back when Valley View Ward was split, he was on the north half first and then the south half, and now the area has been combined for us to cover.
The transfer physically went alright. The person that volunteered didn't have a truck, just a Ford Explorer, so it was a little tight; but we got everything in eventually. The drive was only about 45 minutes at the most, even though I'm technically on the opposite side of the mission now. Emotionally, the transfer was very difficult. I would venture to say it was worse than leaving home to a certain extent. You know you'll be leaving home and have months to prepare, and the way you cope is by making new friends. But then imagine that you lose all those friends, and you still don't have your family around, and you're in a new place. So the first day or two I was homesick for Corona. It was really hard to say goodbye to a lot of the missionaries there, especially because a lot of them go home in the next 6 or 7 months. So the chances of us serving together again are fairly low, because I'll probably be in MoVal that whole time, and they only have one area left after Corona. But we have our transfer journals to get contact info and stuff, so it'll all work out in the end.
Today is transfers and I'm moving so it will probably be crazy. In fact, I know it will be crazy.
I guess I won't make you wait for the big news or skim through the rest of the e-mail. I am headed to the Valley View Ward in the Moreno Valley Zone. We had joked that I would be going there because a missionary in Corona left there a couple transfers ago after training someone there. So I'm going to be his trainee's 3rd companion. His name is Elder Truman, and that's really all I know about him. I am super pumped though, because we will be living in a home share situation. And not just any home share, we live with Ken. Ken is a legend throughout the mission, just because he's a super chill kind of guy and he's always willing to help out the missionaries if they need it. Apparently he has a pretty nice house and he lives on the highest point in Moreno Valley or something like that. Anyway, that should be a lot of fun from what I've heard. Elder Dall also said the ward is really great, though it has it's quirks like every ward does. You know it's been a rough week when the best part of the week was a funeral. But more about that later.
We haven't been able to meet with Joe again. He was sick on Tuesday when we went by and when we called later in the week he said he had too many medical things going on, so to call him the next week. We still haven't met with Cecilia, so at this time it is pointless to continue to plan her into our schedule. She's in the former's section of the area book and some Elders will go by in the next 6 months or so and see if her situation has changed. |
