But after that day, none of the rest of the days this week seemed too bad - high 90's mostly. You sweat but you're not dying.
The California heatwave started off with a bang and now it doesn't seem so bad most of the time. Last Monday I e-mailed you in the morning before I transferred to my new area. Well that day it got up to 115 degrees in Moreno Valley and Riverside. So that was absolutely miserable! We all broke a sweat just unloading the car and there were 6 of us so it went pretty quickly and efficiently.

So transfer P-Day was plenty interesting. I love to try and figure everything out ahead of time so there's always plenty of calling around the mission and discussing possibilities for the impending transfer. On Saturday morning around 8:30 I received the call from President Mullen about being called as a Zone Leader, which I was kind of surprised about (but so many people had been saying it would happen so it didn't come as a total surprise). But that meant that I got to spend the whole day wondering about where I might go and who might be my new companion. As I called around the mission I realized that President was doing an overhaul of the entire mission; he called 7 new Zone Leaders, and we only have 10 zones in the mission. So there will be a lot of new faces at Mission Leadership Council next month. But there will be some familiar faces. Some of the other people who got ZL calls are Elder Murphy and Elder Smith here in Moreno Valley, as well as Elder Frost and Elder Drebot from Corona.
So this week was a little non-traditional to say the least. Our mini mission candidate was dropped off on Monday night, and then on Tuesday we had our Zone meeting until 2 PM and Bible Study Group that night. So his first day with us was planned out and fairly busy. Then on Wednesday, Elder Andrew woke up puking, so we had to call that a sick day and send the young man with Elder Murphy for the day. Then Thursday was our weekly planning which always takes up a big chunk of the day. Friday we went on exchanges, and Elder Hale (who was on exchanges with Elder Andrew) woke up sick that day, so they had to send Chris with Elder Murphy again. On Saturday we had an area blitz in the morning and the baptisms in the afternoon. Hopefully he still had a good time and learned something about what mission life can be like.
So this week was really busy and P-Day was too.
The Dotson's are doing great. We met with them literally every day last week. They had signed up to feed us dinner twice because she feels bad when our dinner calendar has an empty spot. Then on the other days, we were over there to help Emily prepare for her baptismal interview because she hadn't really been as involved with the other lessons as she could have been. On Tuesday we went over the baptismal interview process with them. We aren't supposed to directly ask them the questions, we're just supposed to cover the topics involved in the interview. Edwin and Emily were interviewed on Friday and everything went find, but Jacqueline had to wait until Sunday because that was when President Grant was available. But things went fine with her too. So this week will just be preparing for their baptisms. |
