So missionary work this past week has been kind of slow. A lot of our appointments fell through, though we did have a couple of good things happen, including one just today. So first good thing, was that on Wednesday we decided to go visit the Romero family. They had some family over, but they still let us sit down and talk with them. He showed us around his garden and we talked about that for a bit, but then we got to sit down and talk about the Gospel. We committed his wife and kids to go to church, and she said maybe. I feel like they are going to be a slow process and we are going to have to work with them at their own pace. One of the ways we're going to do this is through helping out in his garden on Thursdays, and then having a lesson afterwards. I also think it will be easier to have lessons with the parents first, and then the kids can be taught later. Besides they will be at school when we are going over there to do service and teach the lessons.

Tomorrow officially marks 19 months on my mission, so that means I have a little less than 5 months left. It's kind of crazy to think how quickly it is going to pass.
This week our district meeting is going to be on Wednesday, and it's going to be on "How To Begin Teaching". It's something that I've found has kind of been lacking in myself in this area. In the YSA, we had so many people who were either referrals or self-referrals, that the idea of setting expectations with people had kind of slipped away. So I think this training will be as good for me as for everybody else. Hopefully I can make sure it's a good one. I really enjoy training because it challenges me to teach something in a new way, which is kind of fun. So it's transfer time again and here's the scoop. I'm staying in Perris with Elder Haltli and we have a new companion named Elder Goodrich. He's been out about 5 months now and he's from North Dakota. He seems pretty excited about missionary work and I think we'll be able to get a lot done working together. With the other transfers in our Zone we have quite a few new/familiar faces in the Menifee Zone now and that will help give us a fresh perspective on missionary work in the area.
So nothing too eventful happened this week. But one cool teaching experience we had was with a less active member. We read and discussed the parables in Luke 15 and talked with this woman about how they apply to different members of the church. Then she made the comparison with the prodigal son that she can go back whenever she wants and that she will be accepted with open arms. I felt the Spirit testify to that truth when she said it and I think she did too. She's meeting with the bishop on Wednesday and we're hoping to see her back at church soon. She has a non-member boyfriend we're hoping to be able to teach as well. We met with a couple of new investigators, one who is very involved in his own church, but we're hoping that he is open-minded enough to read the Book of Mormon and see the value of it. We should be able to meet with him 2 or 3 times a week if he will let us because he is retired.
So on New Year's Eve we did have enough miles left from the month to go to the Zone activity. We only had enough miles because we walked everywhere on Saturday until it was time to go to the activity. There was a ping pong tournament, of which I was the champion. I told everybody that it was only because I had served in a YSA Ward for 3 transfers. And then I also played this super fun card game called Bohnanza. It's a good game for 4 or 5 people. It's about planting beans, and then turning them in for money, so there's lots of trading going on and you're always involved throughout the game. It was super fun!
Elder Cornaby making the pancakes for breakfast on Christmas morning. There was plenty of food for everyone to enjoy . . . . even some hot cocoa on Christmas Eve!
For Christmas my companions mostly received a ton of food. Elder Haltli got a lot of Japanese foods because he lived there for a short time and one of his brothers served his mission there as well. I think we may have gotten a couple of games, but it was mostly clothes and food, except for my legos of course. I used them in my training at DDM today. There are lots of parallels between Star Wars and the gospel.
It's so weird that Christmas is only 6 days away, it's kind of unreal. I did receive the two packages you sent and I had Elder Herald open them to see if the things were wrapped. He took out all the gifts that were wrapped and then we duct taped the boxes shut to remove the temptation of peeking at the unwrapped items. I know this week will be rough on productivity with mission gatherings and holidays and all that sort of stuff, but you only have two Christmas's on your mission so you might as well make the most of them, right?
